Paula Brasovanu

Christa Riekert Advisory Nutritionist

As a busy mother of two young children, a registered midwife and nutritional practitioner, I am well aware of the importance of being able to access reliable, accurate and current information about pregnancy and parenting. It is my pleasure to be able to provide this type of service and on-going support for families and mums-to-be as they embark on their parenting journey.

Experience

As a New Zealand registered midwife, I started my training in midwifery in 2002 in the UK and I have worked as a midwife in England, Wellington, and now Auckland, primarily in hospital settings. As a student, I gathered a lot of community and home birth experience and personally birthed both my children at home. Both my children have been breastfed, and I am passionate about women being supported in all their choices surrounding pregnancy and parenting.

I have experience across all facets of pregnancy from conception to post-natal care, as well as experience in infant/toddler care and nutrition. My ability to give advice and support is enhanced by further qualifications in nutrition that I obtained in Canada. I approach my work with dedication and am very passionate about best practice and current evidence to support families. I see the role of a midwife as a position of great honour and privilege. Working in partnership with women and families, I feel it’s important to make sure enough information is provided for families to make individual decisions in their care as well as adhere to the standards that govern my profession.

Some Useful Tips
  • Don’t listen to negative stories about people’s birth experiences. Each birth is unique.

  • Take time to pamper and be by yourself. After your baby comes it can be very difficult to have time to read, sleep, have baths etc…

  • Take care of yourself. Eat well and be active. Prepare yourself for labour but also think about parenting after!!!
